Name: DPA Workforce Planning Conference
Department: Department of General Services
Area: Human Resources

Idea/Initiative Name: Workforce Planning – DGS's Presentation on Conducting Data Analysis

Description: The fourth step in DPA’s Workforce Planning Model is to “Project Workforce Supply.” This involves projecting the anticipated workforce needed by your department to complete necessary operations, being sure to include numbers of staff as well as competencies, as well as taking into account attrition.

The presentation listed below from the Department of General Services is a wonderful resource to use in determining your department’s projected workforce supply. As presented by Deborah Vaughn at DPA’s Workforce Planning Conference in April 2008, this power point slideshow gives step-by-step instructions on how and when to collect data for workforce projections (such as running a MIRS report), what specific data needs to be collected (such as employee age, CBID, etc.), and how to analyze the data you’ve collected in order to make it a useful tool.
