Objective: To create an electronic change of address system, that allows California residents to change their Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) address information online.
Description: The DMV online change of address service provides an online tool for members of the public to change their mailing and residence address information. By updating their address information electronically, customers and DMV staff save time and paperwork. Customers do not have to make address changes by visiting a department field office or mailing a printed form. The DMV created the online service to provide customers with the option to electronically change their mailing and residence address on a driver license, identification card, and vehicle registration. The online system requires customers to provide sufficient points of identification to ensure that address changes are made only by the record owner. In addition, the system provides for address validations to ensure the correctness of the information added to the record.
Results: The electronic system successfully provides an online mechanism for DMV customers to save time and paperwork, by changing their mailing and residence address on a driver license, identification card, and vehicle registration.
