The following list is offered as a starting collection of links to sites that include useful information particularly related to IT projects and project management. It has been separated into two lists: State of California links; and non-State links.
Feel free to add links. It is helpful to include a label sufficient to indicate to viewers what they might find at the site.
There are many websites with rich project management content useful to state organizations conducting IT projects, e.g. white papers, models, standards, templates, and experiences. The goal is to produce a useful referral list for those needing to do some quick research, find a template, or build a model. Although the list is started by the State CIO, the list includes for-profit sources and is not meant to indicate standards or methodologies that are supported by the State CIO; I.e., caveat emptor.
State IT Resources: DGS State Procurement Manual – A Volume 3 was added to the State Contracting Manual in January 2007 that includes all the aspects of IT procurement policy in a single area.
Office of System Integration – Best practices website – Includes templates for various project management plans, and links to the predecessor website that included helpful tips/documents for IT projects.
DTS IT Training - The DTS training center website that includes course listings, training schedules, and information regarding the IT project management certification program.
IT Manager's Academy - An intensive year-long program geared towards today's IT managers becoming future state IT executives.
IT Council Committees & Workgroups – A list of the various committees and workgroups underway related to enterprise state IT issues at the State CIO website.
Non-State IT Resources:PMI – The Project Management Institute website, includes the PMBOK (Body of Knowledge), information on PM certification, and numerous articles/information regarding project management.
PMI – Sacramento Valley Chapter – The local Chapter of the PMI organization.
Tech Republic - Site that discusses all things IT.
International Institute of Business Analysis - The IIBA is the independent non-profit professional association serving the growing field of Business Analysis, including requirements management, systems analysis, business analysis, requirements analysis, project management, and consulting. The site includes a BABOK (Business Analysis Body of Knowledge) similar in structure to the PMBOK.
Software Engineering Institute - Carnegie Mellon – Site includes a lot of process improvement material, for example the Capability Maturity Model® Integration (CMMI), a process improvement approach that provides organizations with the essential elements of effective processes; and risk management.
