Name: DPA Workforce Planning Conference
Department: Department of Personnel Administration
Area: Human Resources/Workforce Planning

Idea/Initiative Name: Presentation on Workforce Planning - A Process

Description: The State of California’s Workforce Planning Model on the DPA website is a seven-step model of the workforce planning process. The seven steps are: 1) Review Strategic Plan; 2) Identify Work Functions; 3) Identify Staffing Requirements; 4) Project Workforce Supply; 5) Analyze Workforce Gaps; 6) Develop Priorities, Solutions, and Implement; and 7) Evaluate the Plan.

At DPA’s April 2008 Workforce Planning Conference, Future Decisions gave a presentation that expanded on DPA’s seven-step model, identifying additional tasks within each step. This presentation helps to clarify each of the seven steps, and presents two tools to help you get started using the State of California’s seven-step model.
